Spread the Wealth

This is the very beginning of RLC blogging for me, so this will be short. What I've learned on RLC campaign so far is that we all can do something that makes a real difference, both as individuals, families, friends and communities. I am passionate about adoption in particular, but I'm deeply impacted by all the opportunity that RLC brings to a close, tangible place. I look forward to continued blogging and sharing.

Adoption Could be for You!

Have you ever considered adoption? Here is a little summary of our adoption road. I met my husband while traveling overseas. It was pretty much love at first sight and then 18 months later we were married. We wanted kids and had the discussions very early on that it would included both birth kids and adoption. When it came time for us to start the adoption process, our first son was about 6 months old. China was the first country we started with through WACAP - World Association of Children and Parents. About 1 year into the process, we were contacted about a baby from Korea and thus we ended up with our second son a few months later. That's the short, happy version.

The biggest hindrance I hear people speak of is $$$. We quite literally had someone come to us and inquire about buying a property that we owned. Talk about miracle money, the property was not listed and we had noooo money for this adoption. Money would be in our mail, extra jobs came available, we were truly shocked at how such a large sum of money actually materialized when we needed it. Our friends have had similar money miracles in both of their adoptions. We've come to believe that if your heart is set in this direction, money is not an obstacle. This is not to negate the wisdom of good planning to make sure you can afford the expense of doctors, medicines, and all the unexpected stuff that come with kids, but the big $$ of adoption is not a road block in my book.

Secondly, people have asked me if I can truly love a child that didn't come from my own body. Holy cow ....to say yes is an understatement. My body actually physically ached in yearning and pain with both my bio and adopted sons. Their entrances into our family were both so unique, but my emotions and love knocked me down both times.

So, if you are thinking of adopting and have any questions....write right away!
